Partner Matt Edwards

Matthew M. Edwards

Matthew M. “Matt” Edwards is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio and the University of Texas School of Law (1998). He practiced law in Arizona for several years before being admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2001 and moving to Texas in 2002. In 2013, he was named in S.A. Scene’s Best Lawyers list. He is a frequent lecturer on medical malpractice prevention.

Matt is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts and in the United States District Court (federal court) for the Western District of Texas. Since 2003, the near entirety of his litigation practice has been in the defense of physicians, hospitals, health care practitioners, and other professionals who have been the targets of professional negligence lawsuits. His practice also includes appellate law, premises liability, legal malpractice, and commercial disputes. Matt also represents health care providers in administrative board hearings.

Matt and his wife Sheena have three children.

Nicki K Elgie

A native of small-town Texas, Nicki K. Elgie received her B.A. from St. Mary’s University, graduating from the Honors Program magna cum laude. She then obtained her J. D., cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where she was an issue editor on I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society, through which she was published and was the recipient of the Outstanding Masthead Editor Award. Nicki returned to Texas in 2009 and has been representing healthcare providers in South Texas since that time.

Nicki is admitted to practice in all Texas state and federal courts (all districts) and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She specializes in medical malpractice, insurance defense, and personal injury litigation and in representation of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in administrative matters before their respective licensing boards. Additionally, Nicki advises healthcare clients on state and federal laws affecting the healthcare industry.

Nicki enjoys devoting her time, talent, and treasures to various non-profit agencies and in mentoring youth in San Antonio. She is a Fellow of the San Antonio Bar Foundation. Nicki and her husband, Chris, have one child. They are passionate fans of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoy staying active via sports and other outdoor activities.

Samantha A. Gonzalez

Samantha A. Gonzalez graduated from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 2017 with a J.D. and a Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law. While in law school, she externed with the Louisiana Department of Health Legal Service Bureau. In the summer of 2015, she studied in Lyon at Jean Moulin III University as part of LSU Law’s study abroad program. In her spare time, she enjoyed competing in LSU’s many oral advocacy programs and was a member of both the Moot Court and Trial Advocacy boards, winning the Gabrieli Family Law Moot Court Competition in 2016.

Samantha is a native San Antonian and Baylor alumna, who religiously follows both the Spurs and Big 12 football.

Jacob Sansom

Jacob Sansom

Jacob R. Sansom attended the University of Texas at San Antonio as a student-athlete before graduating in 2018 with a B.S. in Sports Medicine. He was a first responder for ten years prior to attending law school and also worked as a lifting mechanics instructor for healthcare providers at various local hospitals. He graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2023 and served on the St. Mary’s Law Journal Editorial Board as Research & Articles Editor.
 
Jacob enjoys sports, the outdoors, and reading classical literature. He and his wife, Emily, have three children, and Jacob coaches his oldest son’s baseball team. 
Blaine Holbrook

Blaine A. Holbrook - Of Counsel

Blaine A. Holbrook graduated from Texas A&M University-College Station in 1994 and the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1998. While attending OU, he was the Technical Editor of the American Indian Law Review and the recipient of the George J. Fagin Municipal Law Scholarship. He was an elected representative of his law school class. He also served as the Tenth Circuit Lieutenant Governor of Public Interest for the American Bar Association’s Law Student Division.

Blaine is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts and in the United States District Courts (federal courts) for the Western, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas. For the last 20 years, he has devoted his practice to professional liability defense, commercial litigation, premises liability defense, and related civil litigation matters. Blaine also assists health care providers with compliance with state and federal laws, peer review matters, and disciplinary actions before licensing boards. Additionally, he has been a guest lecturer at UT Health – San Antonio on numerous occasions. He also frequently provides accredited CME regarding medical-legal issues throughout Texas. He has been named to the Texas Rising Stars list by Thomson Reuters and in S.A. Scene’s Best Lawyers list.

Blaine and his wife, Kathryn, have two children.

Bret Rowe

Brett B. Rowe - Of Counsel

Brett B. Rowe has been listed in Best Lawyers in America©, in the Texas Super Lawyers list by Thomson Reuters, and in S.A. Scene’s Best Lawyers list. He is a former Associate with the American Board of Trial Advocates. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration (1985). He was a magna cum laude graduate of St. Mary’s University School of Law (1991) where he was also a Senior Associate editor of the St. Mary’s Law Journal. He is a prolific lecturer on the defense of medical malpractice cases, general insurance matters, and medical board issues.

Brett is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts, in the United States District Court (federal court) for the Western District of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. For over 25 years, Brett has developed a proven track record for defending health care providers in medical malpractice litigation across the state. In addition, his practice includes insurance defense and personal injury litigation. Brett also advises hospitals on peer review matters and has assisted numerous health care providers in successfully navigating administrative proceedings by their licensing boards.

Brett is an avid trumpet player for various churches and plays in San Antonio’s Band of Lawyers, The Court Jesters. He is married and has two grown children.
